We created this range with the intention to clear the murky waters and create our own 100% Australian sourced AND made bovine beef collagen & gelatin created from certified pasture-fed (grass-fed AND finished) cows.
From farm to table, we partner with local producers to create our premium standard collagen & gelatin. The farms we source our hides from are Certified Pasture-Fed by PCAS (Pasturefed Cattle Assurance System) which ensures a set of strict audited standards are always followed & guarantees the hides are fully grass-fed.
Collagen is the most abundant protein in our body, found everywhere from your skin, hair, & nails to your bones, cartilage, digestive system & more! Collagen makes up around 30% of the total protein content in your body and is often thought of as the ‘glue’ that holds us together. The primary role of collagen is to maintain connective tissue health & mechanical properties of the skin.
Although we produce collagen naturally within our body, the process of aging, stress, inflammatory foods, excessive UV light, lack of sleep & exercise negatively impact collagen production and it becomes more difficult for our body to make. Reduced collagen in the body can manifest in undesirable ways including:
We can support collagen production through diet by eating collagen-rich animal foods such as the skin, bones, tendons, & connective tissues. These parts of the animal can be time consuming to prepare, often requiring many hours of slow cooking to break down the collagen so that it can be eaten. In our modern lives, most don’t have the time to prepare these foods, however there are thankfully more convenient options to access these collagen-rich foods such in the form of ‘Gelatin’ & ‘Hydrolysed Collagen Peptides’.
The nutritional value of collagen Peptides & gelatin is very similar, but they are not the same thing, and both interact differently in your body.
Our Gelatin & Collagen Peptides both start their journey as cow hides, a rich source of Type 1 & Type 3 collagen (which are very similar to the types of collagen in our body).
GELATINis created when the cow hides are dissolved in water, breaking down the native form of collagen & resulting in a jelly-like stock when cooled. This process is known as ‘Partial Hydrolysis’ and makes the native form of collagen easier to digest by making the amino-acid chain structures shorter. This method of breaking down the collagen from hides has been used for centuries by many traditional cultures throughout the world. Gelatin is mostly used for culinary applications due to its ability to gel, whereas collagen peptides do not have this gelling ability.
In comparison, COLLAGEN PEPTIDES (or hydrolysed collagen supplements) are ‘Hydrolyzed’, meaning the amino-acid chain structures have been shortened again using a natural enzyme hydrolysis (water) process that makes the amino acids even more bioavailable. Although gelatin & collagen peptides may contain some of the same amino acids, the amino acids in Collagen Peptides are more easily absorbed & used than that in gelatin.
