Grounding Spiced Ceremonial Cacao

Ayurveda teaches us to pay attention to the qualities of the food we eat, that anything can be medicine or a poison depending on how it is used or who is using it.

This grounding cacao elixir uses the powerful roots of turmeric and ginger which are said to ground us as well as also offering powerful anti-inflammatory properties.  Combined with Organic Ghee, this Cacao elixir will be sure to light the digestive fire.

Recipe by nutritionist Liv Kaplan

20–60g Cell Squared Ceremonial Cacao (refer to Ceremonial Cacao for dosage explanations)

250ml filtered water

½ tsp Cell Squared Ghee

½ tsp turmeric powder

½ tsp ginger powder

Optional sweetener (1 tsp raw honey, maple syrup or liquid stevia to taste)

  1. Slowly heat the water on the stove top, ensuring the water does not reach 60 degrees (over heating the water will reduce the potency of the cacao)

  2. Add the Ceremonial Cacao to the water and slowly stir it to combine

  3. Place all the ingredients into a blender and blend on medium speed for 30 seconds or until frothy and combined.

  4. You may wish to garnish the elixir with sprinkles of Ceremonial Cacao, Cacao Nibs or Cacao Powder

*On dosage, due to the stimulating and rich nature of cacao, we recommend starting with 20g of cacao per person and working up from there (60g is a full ceremonial dose).

**On sweeteners, cacao is naturally bitter and rich so it’s best to keep the properties of these recipes as natural as possible, that is not adding too much sweetener to override the flavours of the cacao. If you aren’t used to the strong bitterness of cacao, a little natural sweetener can take the edge off, but otherwise cacao can be consumed without any sweetener too.
